We are a small established team of Architectural Designers based in Preston with copious amounts of passion and drive for our work. Our philosophy  has enabled us to procure a list of clients and projects throughout England and sometimes beyond. We are proud of our long standing relationships with our clients and their sustained confidence in us. Harry Walters founded the company 65 years ago after breaking away from a business that later became the Building Design Partnership. Harry began designing homes shortly after world war II, in what was then known as the  ‘modern style’. He built up a reputation for unique and splendid designs throughout the North West. Fortunately we had retained records, as some 50 years later we were approached by a property owner to match existing materials and organise repairs to blemished terrazzo flooring. Ted Livesey joined the practice in 1963 and continued to develop the practice when he took over in 1973. He retired in 2002 and passed on the practice to the Kevin McFadyen who is currently the owner. He joined the practice in 1998 and was made a partner in 2000, Kevin previously ran his own practice from Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales for 8 years prior to joining HWL and was also Architectural Design consultant to Tie Rack for their stores globally, his work was predominantly houses for individual clients, barn conversions and tourist related projects in the Dales and Lake District. This aspect of the work continues to form a part of what HWL offer. John Williams joined the team in 2002 as a Chartered Architectural Technologist. His employment prior to HWL was for Bae Systems, where he assisted and acted as lead design consultant on defence projects valued up to £100m. He is an active committee member of CIAT and CIOB and often gives talks to students across the North West. Our team of technicians and support is continuing to grow along with the practice enabling us to expand on our offerings to clients. The company has adopted modern methods of working, encompassing the technological advances and changes in attitudes towards sustainability, renewable energies and the environment.
